I grew [my Instagram account](https://www.instagram.com/aljinvijayann/?ref=skalecube.com) to over 1,000 followers organically in just **30 days.**

A couple of people noticed this and asked me how I grew my account and what strategies I used.

I have already shared the strategies with them.

But then I realized that more people might need help growing their Instagram accounts. That's what made me decide to write this blog.

Right now, we've started a new Instagram account for [Bibin Wilson](https://www.instagram.com/itsbibinwilson/?ref=skalecube.com), and I've been testing different strategies to see what works and what doesn't.

🧠

Whenever I find a strategy that works, I'll share it in this blog, and the mistakes as well.

So, let's learn how to grow Instagram followers.

## My Instagram Growth Results

Before I share the strategies I used, let me show you the results from my Instagram account.

I started creating reels in **February 2026,** and crossed 1,000 followers with my first **20 posts** organically in 30 days.

I didn't run any paid ads or buy followers. All the growth came from the content I posted.

![This is the Aljin Vijayan's instagram profile showing, followers account, and bio](https://storage.ghost.io/c/b0/52/b052d846-efa0-441d-9e89-301a9c253aec/content/images/2026/10/image-19.png)

⚠️

****Note:** In the image, you can see 37 posts as the number. I published the remaining 17 videos after I crossed 1k followers.

During these 30 days, I experimented with different types of videos, content ideas, and posting strategies to understand what worked.

I'd like to show you the metrics from those 30 days, but [Instagram](https://help.instagram.com/684550305010470/?ref=skalecube.com) only shows the insights for the past 90 days. So, I wasn't able to include the original growth graph here.

In the following section, I will show you my best-performing posts.

Basically, I tested different video lengths, opening hooks (visual, verbal, and text), and content topics to see what attracted viewers.

Some reels performed better than others.

By analyzing their performance, I started to understand which content ideas attracted attention and encouraged people to visit my profile.

One of my best-performing reels got more than [**240k+ views**](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DX%5F%5F8tCJDdC/?utm%5Fsource=ig%5Fweb%5Fcopy%5Flink&rpxt=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==&srtk=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==). By analyzing its performance, I learned more about why people engaged with that post.

From this only reel I got around, 1000+ followers.

Here is another one of my best-performing posts, which got more than [**300k+ views**](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DYR4SkHJwSY/?utm%5Fsource=ig%5Fweb%5Fcopy%5Flink&srtk=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==), and brought me more than 300 followers.

![Viral Instagram Reel featuring Vijay alongside Ben Tennyson, generating 358,071 views and 16,404 interactions.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/b0/52/b052d846-efa0-441d-9e89-301a9c253aec/content/images/2026/10/image-21.png)

Of course, not every reel performed well, and some experiments didn't deliver the results I expected.

But those experiments helped me improve my content strategy.

In the following sections, I'll explain the strategies I used and what I learned while growing my Instagram account.

## How I Planned My Instagram Content

Before creating content, I was clear about one thing. I didn't want to post random videos or create content about topics I wasn't an expert in.

I had experience in digital marketing and creating AI-generated videos, along with some knowledge of artificial intelligence.

Since AI-generated videos and artificial intelligence are also relevant to digital marketing, I thought, why not create content around these topics?

That's how I decided on my niche.

### How I Found Content Ideas?

One of the first things I did was research Instagram accounts that were already creating content related to my niche.

In technical terms, it is called **Competitor Research**.

I shortlisted around 10-15 Instagram accounts in my niche and studied their best-performing Reels. I looked at the topics they covered, how they opened their videos, and the questions people asked in the comments.

This helped me understand what my audience was interested in without copying other creators.

Here are the few things I focused on:

- Topics that repeatedly appeared in popular reels.
- Opening hooks that made the videos interesting.
- Questions people were asking in the comments (It's one of the best ways to find content ideas).
- Video formats, and presentation styles.
- Content that received good engagement.

☠️

Please don't copy someone else's content.

I did this research because I wanted to understand what people were interested in and create content from my own perspective.

Keep this in mind when researching content ideas for your account.

### I Prepared Content in Batches

Creating a new reel from scratch every day can take a lot of time, and you might eventually burn out.

So, to make the process easier, I started preparing content in batches.

Instead of researching, scripting, recording, and editing one reel at a time, I grouped similar tasks together.

![Viral Instagram Reel featuring Vijay alongside Ben Tennyson, generating 358,071 views and 16,404 interactions.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/b0/52/b052d846-efa0-441d-9e89-301a9c253aec/content/images/2026/10/image-26.png)

For example,

I researched multiple content ideas in one session, prepared scripts together, and then moved on to recording and editing.

This really helped me organize my content creation process and maintain a posting schedule.

This is what my **Notion Board** looks like.

![Notion content calendar showing Instagram Reels ideas and production statuses, including scripting, editing, and published content.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/b0/52/b052d846-efa0-441d-9e89-301a9c253aec/content/images/2026/10/image-25.png)

### My Instagram posting Schedule

I followed a posting schedule of **four posts per week.**

You can plan your posting schedule based on your workload and priorities. If you can post one Reel every day, that's fine too.

The important thing is to stay consistent and experiment with different approaches.

I also experimented with posting around 6 PM. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't.

But, I didn't depend entirely on posting times. I paid more attention to how people responded to my content.

## Instagram Strategy That I Used

When I started posting reels, I understood that just uploading a video wasn't enough.

I needed to make people stop scrolling, watch the content, and become interested in visiting my profile.

Once I realized that, I started experimenting with hooks, on-screen text, editing, and different content formats.

### Hook that Made People Stop Scrolling

The first **five seconds** of a reel are important because people can easily scroll past a video that doesn't interest them.

I experimented with different opening hooks to see what attracted attention.

I used **verbal, text**, and **visual hooks.**

For example, one of my reels started with a visual hook.

The opening visual created curiosity because it showed a familiar and emotional concept, seeing an older version of someone alongside their younger self.

![Instagram Reel demonstrating an AI-generated childhood and adult photo trend, with a caption sharing the image and video generation prompts.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/b0/52/b052d846-efa0-441d-9e89-301a9c253aec/content/images/2026/10/image-27.png)

I think this encouraged viewers to stop scrolling.

In this reel, I also provided a step-by-step guide on how to create a similar video.

I genuinely didn't expect this Reel to perform so well.

I just posted it and went out.

Within a few minutes, people started commenting and asking for the prompts.

The worst part? I had forgotten to set up comment automation.

I thought, who would even watch this Reel?

Since I was outside, I couldn't set up the automation immediately.

I literally ended up replying to more than **500 comments** with the prompts!

This reel received over 240,ooo views, nearly 5,000 likes, and more than 4,000 comments.

**My observation from this reel:**

- The content was relatable because it made people curious about seeing their younger selves smiling at them.
- The video had a cute and emotional element, and I noticed that many of the comments came from women.
- The concept was trending at that time.

🧠

None of us knows exactly which video will go viral.

Here's another example of a visual hook.

I added Ronaldo's face at the beginning of the Reel and showed viewers how they could get a cool hairstyle like his.

![Instagram Reel demonstrating how ChatGPT can analyze face shape and suggest hairstyles, using Cristiano Ronaldo as an example.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/b0/52/b052d846-efa0-441d-9e89-301a9c253aec/content/images/2026/10/image-29.png)

Ronaldo is a familiar face to millions of people, so I thought using his image might encourage viewers to stop scrolling.

I'm leaving this Reel for you to observe.

Think of it as a small strategy exercise. [Watch the Reel](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DYrkr8CSyrC/?utm%5Fsource=ig%5Fweb%5Fcopy%5Flink&srtk=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) and share your observations in the comments below.

🧠

This Reel received more than 25,000 views.

### I Used On-Screen Text Hook

I experimented with adding text directly at the beginning of the reels to grab people's attention within the first few seconds.

For example, in one of [my reels](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DYrkr8CSyrC/?utm%5Fsource=ig%5Fweb%5Fcopy%5Flink&srtk=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==), I used the text **'Never upload PDF directly to Claude'**

![Educational Instagram Reel explaining how converting PDF files to Markdown can help reduce token usage in Claude AI.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/b0/52/b052d846-efa0-441d-9e89-301a9c253aec/content/images/2026/10/image-28.png)

The text worked as a hook because it warned viewers about something they might already be doing wrong.

It made them curious about why they shouldn't upload PDFs directly to Claude.

I also made sure the text was large, and easy to read.

So, that someone watching without sound quality can understand the topic.

🧠

One thing I learned is that on-screen text shouldn't just describe the video. It should give people a reason to stop scrolling and watch.

### Audio & Visuals

Have you ever noticed that some videos might not have great content, but their visuals and audio are super cool?

Just like hooks, and on-screen text, audio and visuals are also important.

I paid attention to the audio and visuals used in my reels.

I experimented with background music, trending audio, and original audio.

These two will make the video interesting without distracting people from the main message.

I also tried to keep the visuals simple so viewers could understand the content without unnecessary editing.

🧠

In one of [Varun Mayya's](https://www.instagram.com/thevarunmayya/?ref=skalecube.com) Kata sessions, I learned about the idea of ****seven touchpoints**. The concept is that when people repeatedly see your content, they may become more familiar with you and eventually decide to follow.

This made me think differently about consistency.

Instead of expecting every Reel to bring followers immediately, I started focusing on creating content that people would enjoy watching and that would encourage them to return.

## Best Practices

Based on my experience, I recommend experimenting with two types of Reels:

1. Relatable Content
2. Shareable Content

### 1\. Create Relatable Content

Think about it.

When you're scrolling through Instagram and come across a reel that describes something you've experienced, you will definitely stop and watch it.

Sometimes, it might be about your daily struggles, work life, relationships, friends, or a funny situation you've experienced.

You might even think, This is exactly what happens to me.'

That's what makes relatable content interesting.

When viewers find a Reel relatable, they may watch it longer, engage with it, or share it with someone who has experienced something similar.

Instagram uses watch time as one of its important ranking signals.

When people spend more time watching your Reel, it can signal that they find the content interesting.

This can help your Reel reach more people, although watch time is not the only factor that affects distribution.

So, try to create content that connects with your audience's everyday experiences.

According to [HubSpot's 2026](https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/instagram-marketing-report?ref=skalecube.com) Instagram Marketing report, based on a survey of more than 600 Instagram marketers, **37% reported** using relatable or authentic content in their Instagram strategies.

### 2\. Create Shareable Content

I'm currently focusing more on creating shareable content for Bibin's Instagram account.

Have you ever watched a Reel and immediately thought of a friend?

Maybe it reminded you of something they always do, or it perfectly described a situation you've both experienced.

You send it to them without thinking twice.

That's the kind of reaction I want to create with shareable content.

While planning my content, I tried to think about whether someone would find it interesting enough to send to a friend, colleague, or someone they know.

This is particularly important for reaching people who don't already follow your account.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri has identified **watch time, likes, comments** and **shares** as three important signals used to rank Instagram content.

📊

According to [Meta](https://about.fb.com/news/2025/09/in-india-instagram-debuts-a-reels-first-experience-for-its-mobile-app/?ref=skalecube.com), reels were being reshared more than 4.5 billion times every day across Meta platforms, as of a report in 2025.

That's why I started paying attention to shares along with views and likes when reviewing my reel performance.

## Conclusion

Growing my Instagram account to 1000+ followers taught me some new things.

You might think,'It's just 1,000 followers. That's not a huge number.

And that's true. But for me, it's the first milestone.

My next goals are 5,000, 10,000, 50,000, and eventually 100,000 followers.

This is how I have set my milestones.

If you're starting a new Instagram account, my suggestion is to focus on creating useful content, testing different approaches, and paying attention to what your audience responds to.

And remember, getting views is only one part of growing your account. You also need to give people a reason to follow you.

I'll continue sharing what I learn as I experiment with new strategies.
